Lt. Col. William Moore, 49th Illinois Inf., born 31
Dec. 1833, Monroe Co., IL; died in Tulsa, Indian Territory in 1903. Wm. is a descendant of Rev. War soldier, Capt. James Moore, one of the first five Americans to settle in Monroe Co. (Belle Fontaine) after the war. The
"First Five" were the first Americans to settle in the entire State of Illinois which was then a county of Virginia. Submitted by Warren Moore. Served in the Civil War from 1861-1865. |
