The Waterloo Times Friday, April 30, 1915 Decided to Build Members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church Met Sunday The members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church met in special session after a short morning service in the church last Sunday morning and by a vote of 58 for to 31 against decided to have extensive improvements made on the church building. The plans are for a two-story brick building with a flat roof. The first story, or basement, is to be used for school purposes. There will be plenty of light and the ceilings are to be twelve feet high on this floor. The main entrance will be on the east side. The organ and choir loft will take up the centre fore part of the second story. This space will be about twenty-six feet deep, with a cloak room on the west side and a room for committee meetings, etc., on the east side. The remainder of said story will serve as an assembly hall and will be about 47x38 feet with a 15 foot ceiling. The floor line of this second floor will be about four and one-half feet above the floor line of the church. The estimated cost of this work is between $10,000 and $11,000, considering that the best of materials are used. The elders were instructed to get specifications, and after the contract has been let, work will be commenced. The Frauenverein now has about $1500. Louis Bickelhaupt, as executor, on behalf of the estate of Mrs. Johanna Tripp, deceased, kindly donated $500 towards the building fund. The sale of church property on Third Street is also expected to realize a neat little sum, so expect the indebtedness incurred will not be as heavy as some would suppose.
