The Waterloo Paper January 11, 1915 Fed Them Roast Pig S.F. Rainer, the genial proprietor of the Southern Hotel bar, regaled his patrons and friends with an excellent roast pig lunch on Sylvester eve (the night before New Year) and a large crowd was present to enjoy the same. The ante-room was profusely decorated in honor of Sid’s and Joe Pluth’s birthdays, and the boys sure had one jolly good time bidding the old year adieu and welcoming the new. Roast pigs may come and roast pigs may go but this was a “dinger” and will live long in the memories of the happy bunch that celebrated New Year’s Eve at Sid’s place.
