The Columbia Star September 27, 1928 Local News Items Mrs. Johanna Kuebner entertained with a dinner Tuesday, evening for Dr. and Mrs. Ed Bollinger of Anna, Ill., who spent their vacation here. The marriage bans of Elten/Elton Schorb and Otilda Beckerle were published for the first time Sunday in the Catholic Church. The wedding will take place part of October. The Illinois Power and Light Corporation has a force of men at work here, re-wiring the city lighting system. Much of the wiring in the city is bad and to do a thorough job the entire system is being rewired. Armin Nollau, a guard at the Southern Illinois Penitentiary at Menard is home on sick leave. He is suffering with a case of malaria and came home to recuperate. His many friends hope that he will soon be on the mend again. The interior of the workroom of Goockeler’s Bakery shop is being remodeled. The walls are being painted to resemble tile. It is gleaming white now and is a most attractive work room with an abundance of light and spotlessly clean. Little Bernice Ross entertained a number of little friends Saturday afternoon and evening in honor of her birthday anniversary. The guests were royally entertained by the little hostess and all had a very splendid time. Many games were enjoyed and the crowning feature of the entertainment was of course the birthday supper for it was indeed a feast. The little folks all wished Bernice many happy returns of the day before departing for their houses. Miss Ester Riebling of St. Louis, who soon will become the bride of William Joedecke of Waterloo, was tendered delightful miscellaneous shower by Miss Celia Roider and a number of friends Friday evening. It was a pretty shower for when the guest of honor arrived Beulah Daab dressed as a kewpie brought in a toy express wagon filled with lovely gifts to the happy bride-to-be. The shower was held at the home of her aunt Mrs. William Daab, and was an entire surprise and a delightful one. Bunko was played and Miss Riebling won first prize at this game. After the games were over a delightful two course lunch was served. Everyone had a delightful time for it really was a clever party. There were eighteen guests. A number of out-of-town guests were present.
