The Waterloo Times Oct 22, 1915 A LONELY AND NEGLECTED SPOT It’s not far from the little school house on the hill, where the shouts and laughter of the children can be heard while at play; it’s not far from the little creek where the drops of water flow – flow over pebbles. Around curves, whither no one knows; it’s not far from the highway where men travel – travel back and forth day after day, always nearer and nearer the end of their journey; it’s not far from the homes and lands where they once lived and toiled who now lay at rest in this lonely spot. Close by once stood the large, rude structure in which the fathers and mothers of quite a few families of this county met to adore and serve their God; close by also stands what is left of the little old log school house in which the children of many years past were taught to love and remember their parents and dear ones, even unto the end of time. Ah, reader! and this lonely spot – it’s the old, old cemetery. Go there, but not to find tall tombstones, glittering and erect; not to find graves covered with flowers; not to find walks of gravel or brick, for its all a wilderness, overgrown with grasses, vines, shrubs and trees. Go visit this resting place of the departed and you’ll find a neglected spot. Neglected, yes neglected and forgotten by all, even by the head of the church. Sad, but true. Foster Pond, Oct 20.
