The Waterloo Times Friday, May 7, 1915 Farmer Killed by Train William Tweed, a middle aged farmer residing north of Sparta, was struck by the north bound passenger train on the M. & O., at a crossing between Sparta and Houston, on Wednesday evening, and instantly killed. He was hauling a load of bridge lumber to a point north of the crossing and while crossing the track was struck by the train. The wagon was demolished but the team was not injured. The body was brought to Baldwin and later taken back to Sparta where the inquest was held. The crossing where the accident occurred is a dangerous one, a party named Foster having been killed there in the same manner some time ago. --- Red Bud Pilgrim
