The Waterloo Times Friday, March 26, 1915 Hecker H.P. Meng and wife of Belleville, spent Sunday at home with their parents. Ben Neff, who has just finished his term in the U.S. Navy, is again with his friends and relatives here. Charles Lieser and family including his father of Columbia, Ill., were the guests of Steve Renneker last Sunday. George Dehn, who has recently returned from the western rice growing region, spent a few days with Steve Rennecker this week. Dr. Miller of Waterloo was called out to Frank Emery’s residence last Thursday evening to treat a sick horse. He was successful in his treatment. Mr. and Mrs. George Vonderheid, Albert Monike and his mother Christina Monike attended the funeral of Andrew Monike at Baldwin last Saturday. Andrew Monike died one day last week of pneumonia. He took a bad cold of which he thought he was recovering when he suddenly lapses into a high fever and three days later died. He was 46 years old and leaves a wife and family. Three brothers, two sisters and his mother also survive him. Rudolph Steinbrecker, who has been employed as clerk at the National Stock yards, East St. Louis, Ill., is taking a vacation until May 1. Mr. Steinbrecker has worked himself up from a fifty dollar school teacher to a hundred dollar clerk. He reports that during the last year the East St. Louis branch took the lead and sold nearly eight million dollars worth of stock. Some of the men there receive as much as $600 per month salary.
