The Waterloo Republican December 5, 1923 COLUMBIA John Petri was shot and rather badly injured last Sunday while rabbit hunting on the farm of William Eschmann in the Bottoms. Petri, with Mr. Eschmann and others were in a patch of high weeds when a rabbit jumped. Eschmann fired at the rabbit, and the pellets struck Petri in the leg and hip. The distance was about thirty yards and the shot penetrated the leg to the bone. About fifty shot took effect. Petri was brought to his home here in Columbia and medical aid was summoned at once. Quite a number of the shot lodged just under the skin, while others went deeper. His condition is reported as satisfactory at this time and unless unforeseen complications set in, he will recover in a few weeks. John F.
