The Waterloo Times April 2, 1915 Escaped from Alton Two escaped insane patients from the new asylum at Alton walked into the City Hotel bar Wednesday evening and took seats. They looked so outlandishly dirty that they attracted attention at once and it was not long until it was learned that they were not right, and they were placed in jail for safe keeping. One of the men is Leo Knapp, a former Waterloo boy. The other, so Knapp says is named Schlecht. Leo says the other fellow is a “nut” proper and don’t know anything. They will most likely be returned to the institution from which they escaped. Knapp has changed considerably in the past twenty years. He is not near as plump as he used to be and none of his old acquaintances recognized him until he mentioned his name.
