Waterloo Times, Friday Feb 5, 1915 Hecker News Frank Emery reports water in his cellar, Sewer pipe too small. E. O. Kamuff, who has been caring for E. J. McQuillen of late, was in town Monday. Ben Rausch crossed the flooded bottoms of Richland creek last Monday in a boat to reach Hecker. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Hill made a trip to Smithton one day last week and visited the public school there. The Red Bud butchers are on our streets quite often now. Hardly a day passes but what we meet some of them. Roy E. Staufenbiel reports that his grandpa, Mr. McQuillan, who has been ailing for some time, is about the same. Robert Ruhl and family went to St. Louis last Monday to attend the funeral of his niece, Mrs. Feldbusch who died suddenly of heart failure. Louis Koerber was in our town one day last week executing a bond as a qualification for tax collector in Prairie du Long Town, St. Clair County. Sheriff Burkhardt and his deputies relieved Hecker and community of about three thousand dollars last Monday. Owing to the high water, many people failed to put in their appearance. Steve Rennecker took advantage of the situation and moved into his new house last Monday. The ground was soft and their eggs and canned goods were in no danger of being broken. Last Sunday morning about seven o’clock a fire alarm was given. It proved to be a chimney on fire at Ruhl’s residence. Owing to the heavy atmosphere the whole house was enveloped in smoke which created the alarm. Last Saturday night the Village Board met in regular session with Stahlheber in the chair, Mr. Hurley of St. Louis was present and before he left, closed a deal with the Board for 400 feet of fire hose from the Diamond Fire Hose Co.
