Admission, 25, 35, and 50 cents. Julius Kuehner left for Booneville, Mo., last week, where he is to assist his brother, Herman Huehner, for several months. The Frauen-Verein of the German Evang. St. Paul’s Church of Waterloo, attended the funeral of Mrs. Ernestine Schrimpf Wednesday of last week. Deceased was one of the organizers of the above society. Fred G. Rapp was the recipient of a birthday surprise party last Thursday evg. In the parlor of the St. Louis Hotel, and a complete surprise it was, as Mrs. J. T. Angerer and daughter, Mrs. Julius Breidecker, well known, for their kind and animating spirit had prepared everything so that the recipient hadn’t the slightest knowledge of the surprise which was awaiting him. The precious hours were sweetened by songs and enjoyable games only glided by too swift. Call again, each and everyone. A charter was granted to several of our prominent citizens, by the state for the incorporation of a humane society. The incorporation will be known as the Columbia Humane Society, of Columbia, Monroe County, Ill. The first regular meeting was held Nov 29th and the following officers were elected: John Pfeffer, ar. Pres., Hy Riebling Vice-Pres., Louis Kuchner Sec’y and Chas Reis Treas. Regular meetings will be held on the first Monday of each month at the town hall. The object of the society is to do all in its power to prevent and suppress cruelty to dumb animals and children, and cultivate and develop the spirit of kindness and mercy toward every living creature. The object of the society is certainly a worthy one and commands the respect of every law abiding citizen. Anyone wishing to become a member can do so by entering his name at the Sec. of the society, and paying an initiation fee of 25 cents. A monthly due of 10 cents is asked of each member. Fred G. R.
