I am researching my great-greatgrandfather, Heinrich Kemp. He was born Jan. 5, 1815 in the Duchy of Braunschweig. He came to the US in 1846 and settled in Waterloo, Monroe County. On Sept. 11, 1849 he married Maria Catherine Frank (her first husband was Hoffmann; don't know anything more about him). The marriage record is recorded at the Monroe County Court- house and St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Three of their children were born here: Elizabeth (possibly daughter of first husband Hoffmann), Wilhelmina, and Sylvester (youngest daughter Mary was born in Shiloh, St. Clair County. Heinrich Kemp was a shoemaker. In my search for when exactly he came to the US and on what ship (and where in Braunschweig he was born; and who his parents were). I have come across information on other Kemps in Waterloo who may be related. Perhaps others might be interested in these Kemps.
