Zimmer, Edgar O. Edgar O. Zimmer, 102, of Waterloo, died Nov. 18, 2006, in Columbia. He was born Jan. 18, 1904, in Maeystown, the son of the late Louis H. and Sophie C. Zimmer nee Feldmeier. He was married to the late Bonnie M. Zimmer nee Boyd. Mr. Zimmer is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers William P. Zimmer, Louis H. Zimmer and Roland W. Zimmer; and sisters Lucille M. Zimmer. Leora S. McDonald and Elizabeth Hollis. Mr. Zimmer was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Monroe County Bar Association, was a past Worshipful Master of Morris Lodge 787 AF & AM, and was a member of the International Order of the Oddfellows. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois College of Commerce in 1929, and earned his law degree from the University of Illinois is 1931. He began practicing law in Monroe County in 1931, served as the Monroe County State’s Attorney from 1936 to 1960, and was recognized by the Illinois State Bar Association with the Senior Counselor designation award in 1981. He established the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Edgar and Bonnie Zimmer law scholarship in 1984, and established the Zimmer family Foundation in 1997 to provide college scholarships to area students. Visitation and a funeral service were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
