Spurgeon, Shirley J. nee Pennington
Shirley J. Spurgeon nee Pennington, 59, of Valmeyer, formerly of Columbia, 
died Nov. 30, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Feb. 19, 1947, in Pittsburg, 
Ken., the daughter of the late Roscoe and Edith R. Pennington nee Miller. She
married Roger Spurgeon in 1962. Mrs. Spurgeon is survived by her husband; 
son Brian (Robin) Spurgeon of Valmeyer; daughter Patricia (Bruce) Stroh of 
O’Fallon, Mo.; grandchildren Reed Spurgeon, Wyatt Spurgeon and Andrea 
Stroh; brother James (Fern) Pennington of Columbia; sisters Juanita (Ivan) 
Linhardt of Bowling Green, Ken., and Billie (Dale) Grogan of Columbia; and 
other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and so 
Anthony Spurgeon. Mrs. Spurgeon attended First Baptist Church in Columbia. 
She was retired from Columbia Unit District #4, where she worked as an aide. 
Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral service was at First Baptist 
Church in Columbia, Pastor Jonathan Peters officiating. She is buried at College 
Hill Cemetery in Belle, Mo. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church 
Building Fund in Columbia.
