Schaefer, James 
James “J.R.” Schaefer, 40, of Valmeyer, died July 6, 2006, in Valmeyer. 
He was born December 4, 1965, in St. Louis, the son of Ray and Kay 
Schaefer. He married Lisa Laurent in 2002. Mr. Schaefer is survived by 
his parents; wife; son Fredrick “Fritz” Schaefer of Valmeyer; sister 
Katherine (Mike) Siler; brothers Bill Schaefer and Sam (Liz) Schaefer; 
mother- and father-in-law Larry and Lola Laurent; sisters-in-law Lela 
(Scott Topp) Laurent, Linda Laurent, Loretta Laurent and Lois (Kevin) 
Gyore; nieces and nephews Anthony Siler, Jacob Gyore, Katy Gyore, 
John Schaefer and Ben Schaefer; and other relatives and friends. He was 
preceded in death by his grandparents Eleanor and William Schaefer and 
Maxine and John Kurtz. Mr. Schaefer attended St. Mary’s Catholic 
Church in Valmeyer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. 
Naval Reserves. He worked as a civil engineer for the Missouri Department 
of Transportation. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass 
was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Valmeyer. He is buried at Madonnaville 
Cemetery near Valmeyer. Memorials may be made to the Frederick Schaefer 
Education Fund c/o the American Funds or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
