Obituary, The Waterloo Republican, October 27, 1965: James Shields Funeral Saturday James T. Shields, age 56, husband of Mrs. Alice Shields, nee Flynn, died Oct. 21 at Koch Hospital in St. Louis County. The funeral took place from the Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo with Requiem High Mass at 9 a.m. Saturday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Waterloo, the Rev. Charles Hellrung officiating. Burial was in the new Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery. Mr. Shields was born near Waterloo Sept. 25, 1909, a son of Thomas and Bridget Shields, nee Mathews. He is survived by his wife, six sisters, Mrs. William (Catherine) Griffin of Fults; Mrs. Jerome (Elizabeth) Schilling, Mrs. Victor (Mildred) Reagan, Mrs. John (Grace) Dougherty of Waterloo; Mrs. Fred (Theresa) Van de Riet of Freeburg; and Mrs. Jerome (Virginia) Kirwin of St. Louis; and four brothers, Albert, Leo and Harry Shields of Waterloo and Stonie Shields of St. Louis. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Mrs. Albert (Josephine) Harlin.
