The Waterloo Republican July 11, 1956 Al Jung Died Monday Morning Aloysius “Al” G. Jung, 76, husband of Mrs. Theresa C. Jung, nee Christmann, died at 5:20 am Monday morning at St. Clement’s Hospital, Red Bud, where he had been a patient for about a month. His body lies in state at the Wagner Funeral Home in Waterloo, and his funeral will take place Thursday morning with Requiem High Mass at 9 o’clock in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Jung was born in Waterloo September 7, 1879, a son of Henry and Carolina Braun Jung. He was married to Miss Theresa C. Christmann November 6, 1912. for many years he was a representative of the former Waterloo Milling Co. Later he and his brother Charles Jung operated a grocery store here, until still later he was associated with the insurance business. He was one of the promoters of the Waterloo Citizens’ Industrial League and was instrumental in getting subscriptions to locate a factory here in the old school building. For many years he played baseball and was quite a pitcher with a back breaking “round house curve” for which he became noted, and after hanging up his glove he managed the Waterloo baseball team. In recent years he lived a life of retirement, serving on the Building Committee for the new SS. Peter and Paul School. He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and the City Recorder for Waterloo. Besides his wife he is survived by a brother, Charles Jung of this city, and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Janson.
