Obituary, November 8, 1922, The Waterloo Republican: JUELFS. Mrs. Mary Juelfs, nee Heller, one of the oldest residents of Fults, died last Thursday evening, after a lingering illness of several months. She was aged 80 years, 4 months and 19 days. She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Koch, until death on the old Juelfs place near renault, a period of fifty years at the same place. The deceased was born near Waterloo June 8, 1842. By 1862 she was married to John Juelfs, who preceded her in death forty years ago. To this union were born seven children, all living: John of Fults, Henry of St. Louis, Joe of Maeystown, Mrs. Mary Stahlsmith, Mrs. Ella Koch of Fults, Mrs. Louisa Schmidt of Renault, Mrs. Caroline Koch of Modoc, also 28 grand-children and 9 great grandchildren. She also leaves one brother John Heller of Renault. The deceased was respected by all who knew her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to all her friends. She had a kind and loving heart, and a smile for every one until the last hour she was with us. The funeral took place Monday afternoon and was largely attended, since every one admired the many good parts of the deceased. Impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. Pusch in the Evangelical church of St. Joe. The deep sympathy of all goes to the bereaved ones in their dark hour of sorrow. There will always be a vacant room and chair which never can be refilled again, but it was God's will to take our dear mother and grandmother. May she rest in peace. Mary Ann is my great-great Grandmother. She and John are buried in St. Joe. John does not have a stone. Several people who are familiar with this church tell me that his stone (and others) were torn out to expand the parking lot!!
