The Waterloo Times Friday, July 9, 1915 MRS. SCHLEMMER PASSES AWAY Mrs. Clara Mary Schlemmer, one of our old and respected citizens, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schroeder, in this city Saturday, July 3, 1915, after a lingering illness aged 82 years, 2 months and 8 days. Mrs. Schlemmer was born in Gesmuld, Germany, April 25, 1833. Her maiden name was Gauckesbrink. In 1853 she emigrated to this country. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Conrad Eversmann who preceded her in death many years ago. Two children survive of this union, Mrs. Henry Glessner of near Waterloo and Henry Eversmann of St. Louis. In 1867 she became the wife of Anton Schlemmer, who also preceded her in death. Three children survive of this union. They are Frank Schlemmer, Mrs. Jacob Schroeder and Mrs. John Kruse, all of this city . She is also survived by 29 grand-children and three great-grand-children. Mrs. Schlemmer was a devout Catholic and attended her church as regularly as she took her meals, whole she was able. She was a generous and wholesouled disposition, and will be sadly missed by her neighbors and friends, and especially in Jacob Schroeder’s family, where she has made her home for the past sixteen years or more. Her remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery Tuesday morning after requiem mass in Sts. Peter and Paul’s church by Rev. C. Krewet. Six of her grand-sons, John Glessner, John Eversmann, John Kruse, Anton Schroder, Anton Schlemmer and Wm. Glessner, acted as pall-bearers and carried her remains to their final resting place. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the last sad rites. A long and useful life has been ended by the hand of Death. Her sufferings are now ended and may her sleep be peaceful and calm.
