The Waterloo Republican December 5, 1923 Charles Reis, an old veteran and well known citizen of Columbia died at his home on Main Street on Wednesday, November 28, 1923. The deceased was born August 5, 1845, aged 78 years, 3 months and 13 days. He joined the Union forces in the Civil War, and was engaged in many battles of the army of the west during that struggle. After the close of the war he located to Columbia where he engaged in the barber business. He was widely known for his clear recollection of the many incidents which happened in the earlier days of this city. His wife preceded him in death many years ago. He is survived by the following eight children: Mrs. Emma Mosbacher, Mrs. Bertha Pfeffer, Mrs. Anna Mallett, Louis and Edwin Reis, all of St. Louis; Mrs. Meta Schneider of Columbia, Mrs. Rose Eckert of Columbia and Mrs. Emelia Jordan of Pittsburg.
