The Waterloo Republican February 1981 Peter Oelzen Last Rites Friday Funeral Services were held February 20 for Peter W. Oelzen, 89, who died February 16, 1981, at Compton Hills Medical Center in St. Louis, where he had been a patient for two days. Mr. Oelzen was a resident of Columbia at the time of his death but was a former resident and mayor of Fults. He retired in 1951 from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. His funeral took place from the Quernheim Funeral Home with services at 1 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ, St. Joe, the Rev. David Boyle officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. Mr. Oelzen was born February 12, 1892, in Fults, son of Henry and Maria Oelzen, nee Meyer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose E. Oelzen, nee Kunkel of Columbia; a daughter, Hazel Rodewald of Columbia; a son Herbert Oelzen of East Alton; three grandchildren, Sharon Reichert and Tim and Dennis Oelzen; a great-grandson, Scott Reichert; a niece and nephew. A son Waldo Oelzen was killed on Anzio Beach in Italy during World War II. Mr. Oelzen was a member of St. John United Church of Christ at Fults, Renault American Legion Post 1215, and he was a veteran of World War I.
