The Waterloo Republican, June 24, 1897: Ivy Landing Mat King was found dead here Sunday morning and Coroner Sennott notified. King was very well known and had been in the habit of passing through these parts for the past five or six years following the harvest. When in Ivy he was in the habit of sleeping in Mr. Kittinger's barn. Last Saturday he went to sleep in the barn as usual, but was found dead in the morning. From appearances the supposition is that he arose in the night to get a drink of water when he fell down the stairway, breaking his neck. King was born in St. Louis and was 41 years of age. He was a widower, but besides this nothing is known of his family affairs. He was buried on the Bluff near Fults.
