Michels, Joseph
Joseph Michels, 76, of Waterloo, died December 8, 2005, in Red Bud. He was born 
June 8, 1929, in Yugoslavia, the son of the late Jakob and Elizabeth Michels nee Pletz. 
He was married to Barbara Michels nee Lautenbach. He is survived by his wife; children 
Elfrieda (Joe) Lloyd, Alfred (Donna) Michels, Barb (Terry) Hoselton, Marie (Bill) 
Schlemmer, Betty (Mike) Griffin, Kathy (Kenny) Goodman, Joe (Debbie) Michels, Rick 
(Patty) Michels, Sue (Lou) Stuart, John (Jackie) Michels, Debbie (Jeff) Blandford, and 
Diane (Joe) Lewis; 27 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 
sisters Marian Delbo and Francis Bambach. He was preceded in death by his parents and 
sister Maria Makarow. Mr. Michels was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church 
in Waterloo. He was also a member of Waterloo Senior Center and was married 56 years. 
Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at SS. Peter and Paul 
Catholic Church, Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. He is buried at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or 
American Diabetes Association.
