Obit Verbeke, Arthur H. Arthur H. Verbeke, 85, of Waterloo, died October 9, 2004, in Red Bud. He was married to Doris Verbeke nee Guth for 62 years; she survives him. Mr. Verbeke was born July 11, 1919, in St. Louis, the son of the late Arthur J. and Anna Verbeke nee Dieckmann. He is survived by his wife; children Arthur C. (Judy) Verbeke, June Craig, Kathleen (Stephen) Behrmann and Suzanne (Bart) Bartholomew; grandchildren Cynthia Wastenberger, Timothy Verbeke, Daniel Verbeke, Julianne Craig, Jonah Behrmann, Michael Behrmann, Caleb Behrmann, Hannah Behrmann, Abraham Behrmann and Tucker Bartholomew; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Margaret Hausler; and brothers Robert Verbeke, Leonard Verbeke and Edmund Verbeke. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Hunter Bartholomew, and brothers Vincent Verbeke and Thomas Verbeke. Mr. Verbeke attended St. Catherine Laboure Church, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4596. He served in World War II and was a member of VFW Post #4539. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. His funeral mass was at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Cahokia, Fr. Bernard Voss officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
