The Waterloo Republican June 1, 1927 Deaths SCHAPER Our community was shocked on Monday morning to learn of the sudden and untimely death of Louis Schaper residing on the Geo. Hartmann farm several miles north of Valmeyer. An inquest was held Monday afternoon at which the jury returned the verdict that the death had been self-imposed by carbolic acid poisoning. Mr. Schapel was one of our energetic farmers, highly respected and well liked by all who knew him. His rash act is almost inconceivable and the only motive attributed thereto is despondency over the loss of his crops from high water this spring and the continued rain and wet weather this spring. At this time no funeral arrangements have been announced. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife, Mrs. Mamie Schaper, nee Coerver, and three children, Mrs. Albert Agnew, Jr., of Granite City, and William and Loretta at home. The bereaved ones have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of all in their deepest hour of sorrow. The deceased leaves two brothers William Schaper of Waterloo and Albert at Jeffersonville, Ind.
