Obit Mayer, Scott Anthony U.S. Marine Corporal Scott Anthony Mayer, 22, of Waterloo, died June 5, 2004, while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps on deployment in Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Mayer was married to Teresa Mayer nee Grasley, whom he met in Japan and married in Hawaii in late 2002. He was born Nov. 24, 1981, at Belleville, the son of Tony and Renae Mayer nee Oder. He is survived by his wife; parents; brothers Tim Mayer, Andy Mayer and Michael Mayer; grandmother Madeline Mayer; mother-in-law Maria Barragan; sister-in-law Jeanine Barragan; brothers-in-law Michael Greiner and Christopher Greiner; grandparents Pedro and Isabel Barragan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Anthony J. Mayer Sr. and maternal grandparents Donald and Marilyn Oder. Mr. Mayer was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, where he was active with the youth group, mission trips and liturgical dance group. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps following his graduation in 2000 from Waterloo High School, and was a section chief for Battery B, First Battalion, 12th Marines, stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He also served as a lay leader for religious services while he was in basic training. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ, officiated by Pastor Kevin Brown. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
