Altes, Albert A. Albert A. Altes, 92, of Waterloo, died June 5, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born June 27, 1912, in Fults, the son of the late William and Elizabeth Altes nee Hoffmann. He was married to Emma K. Altes nee Sparwasser. He is survived by his wife; children Wallace (Jane) Altes of Albany, N.Y., and Nancy (Ray) Reed II of Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren Scott (Diane) Altes, Read Schusky, Lt. Ray (Jessica) Reed III, and Kathryn Reed; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William, Sylvester, Alfred, Eliot and Roland Altes; sisters Irene, Corena and Luelle, and godson Gene Osselmeier. Mr. Altes was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown, where he was past consistory and financial secretary for 10 years; he served two terms as president of the Monroe Service Company; served five terms on the Waterloo City Planning Commission; served three years as Master of Morris Lodge AF & AM #787, where he was a member for 61 years; he was a member of Valley of Southern Illinois Order of Scottish Rite, and member of Maus School Board for 12 years. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. John United Church of Christ, Pastors Ivan Horn and Susannah Thompson officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to St. John UCC Organ Fund in Waterloo or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
