HARBAUGH William George Harbaugh, 74, well-known resident died at St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, last Wednesday evening at 6:15, October 22, 1941. Following an illness here he was taken to the St. Louis hospital about a month ago. Two weeks ago he underwent an operation. Later, complications set, followed by his death last Wednesday. Mr. Harbaugh, was born March 15, 1867, a son of the late George W. Harbaugh and Anna E. Bamber, on a farm near Waterloo, and he spent his childhood days at Madonnaville, where his father was postmaster and operated a general store. Later he moved to Foster Pond, where he built the Harbaugh home and farmed there for a number of years. He also farmed near Hecker and Valmeyer and came to Waterloo in 1904, where he was employed by the former Gauen Mercantile and Lumber Company. For a few years he was also employed by the Waterloo Milling Company. In more recent years he retired spending most of his time at home, when he made it a practice to attend mass every morning at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church of which he was a devout member. He was also a member of the SS Peter and Paul’s Society. On October 23, 1894, he married Anna C. Schumacher. They were they first couple to be married in St. Augustine Church at Hecker. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. D. Schlotmann and had he lived but one more day, the couple would have observed their 47th anniversary. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Sister Mary Ann William of Jefferson City Missouri, Miss Eleanor of Shawnee Oklahoma, Mrs. Alice Wildman of Brentwood Missouri, Mrs. Rose Bertram of Waterloo, Mrs. Marie Miller of East St. Louis and Miss Irene at home; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Waldermeyer of Overland Missouri and Miss Margaret Harbaugh of St. Louis; two brothers, Henry and Steve of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Marilyn Miller and Robert Wildman. One daughter May Cecelia, died in infancy. His funeral took place from the ??? Wagner Funeral Home Saturday morning, Oct. 25, 1941, with solemn requiem high mass services in SS Peter and Paul Church, with Rev. E. G. Schumacher of Ava, Illinois, a nephew as the celebrant and Rev. R. L. Harbaugh of Prairie du Rocher, a cousin of the deceased, as deacon and Rev. G. F. Unterkeeflur(sp) of this city as sub-deacon.
