Steppig, Michael Sr.
Michael Steppig Sr., a well known old citizen died on Saturday, Feb 27, at 10 o’clock 
a.m. of heart disease.  He was up and had just taken medicine and sat down on a chair 
when a moment later he expired on the chair.  Mr. Steppig was born April 3, 1830, in 
Germany, and emigrated to America at an early age.  He was married to Miss Appolonia 
Koch who with 8 children survive him.  The children are: John, Michael, Joseph, Nickolas 
and Louis, and Mrs. Ann Reither, Mrs. John Schorb and Mrs. Margaret Kern of Evansville, 
Ill. The burial took place at the Catholic cemetery on Monday mourning, Feb, 29.  Rev. 
Goosens preached a fitting sermon; Mr. Steppig was one of those good honest citizens 
who make up the substantial element in the community.
