The Waterloo Times Friday, October 15, 1915 Auto Truck Ditched Occupants Unhurt While driving home from the creamery at Smithton, Friday afternoon, George Reheis and Herman Burri of Hecker had a narrow escape. Reheis was driving the auto truck of the Hecker creamery and Burri was riding with him. When near the Cortner place, on the Belleville road north of Hecker, the truck ran against a bridge, broke the front spring, and the impact damaged the steering apparatus, turning the truck which upset in the ditch. Reheis and Burri were dumped into a wheat field and were unhurt. The truck had to be taken to William Fritche’s blacksmith shop at Hecker for an overhauling. About thirty men were out to assist in righting the damaged machine. Burri positively refused to do any more riding, we are told, and made his way home to Hecker on foot. One accident was a plenty for him that day.
