Oct 22, 1915 Waterloo Times Straw Takes Fire Horses Seared Jacob, son of Geo. A. P. Goeddel in Goeddeltown, had an experience last Friday which he will not care to repeat very soon. The boy went out to his father’s field to burn some potato straw. He set fire to the straw and also loaded a load on his wagon. In a short time the wind shifted and as he looked around he saw the load was on fire. He rushed to the wagon and unhitched the horses to drive them to safety, but before he could do so one of them was slightly seared by the heat and the wagon was totally destroyed. The young man was also burned about the face and hands. Chas P. Goeddel and son Dan, George Crook and Oscar Goeddel neighbors, all rushed over to the rescue, but about all they could do was to get the horses away in safety, and for a while things looked pretty blue. A large straw stack which they endeavored to save, was entirely destroyed.
