The Waterloo Times Friday, April 23, 1915 THIS SECTION DID NOT HAVE A HEADING Last Sunday a jolly fishing party composed of our jitney bus driver, Thomas Crowe, his wife and little boy, Misses Jessie and Nettie Kaufmann and Arthur Heinrich, drove out to the city reservoir. How many fish they caught, we failed to ascertain. However, they say they had barrels of fun from the day’s recreation. See Dr. Kruse, O.D. about your eyes. At Louis P. DeRousse’s Jewelry Store Thursday, April 29. Have you used Kay-Mill Flour for break? It is made of Kansas hard wheat. Give a trial. Your neighbor uses it? The residence of J.W. Rickert has been in the hands of the painters the past week, and presents a handsome appearance. Louis Brandt Jr., of near Warnock Station purchased a new Ford touring car last week from the Patterson automobile company. Dick Holtmann of Red Bud got quite a little notoriety as a prize fighter in the St. Louis papers this week. Dick came out second-best in a three round bout with one Bud Claney, and is now back at home. Henry Hellmer sold out his stock of groceries and store fixtures at public sale last week. The building formerly occupied by his store is being overhauled and when necessary changes are made will be the new home of Louis P. DeRousse’s jewelry store. After praying for forty years for a baby, a Harrisburg couple placed a want ad in a newspaper and that night a bouncing baby boy was left at their door step. Prayer is all right if you aren’t in a hurry, but for quick results use a printer’s ink. Louis Bickelhaupt’s new garage is nearing completion and will be handsome, roomy and up-to-date. Herman Jehling is now employed with the Pinkel Merchandise Co. and will learn the intricacies of merchandising. Theodore Ruch purchased a new Overland touring car Tuesday and is now able to “split the wind” with the best of them. The little friends of and schoolmates of Sadie Johnson, helped her celebrate her 10th birthday Wednesday afternoon, and had a big time. Farmers wanting egg cases for transient use, can have same free of charge by applying to Oscar W. Moore & Son. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Birkner, residing three miles north-west of Hecker, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary last Saturday evening. Quite a crowd of friends were present to extend congratulations and a good time was had by all. J. I. Powderly, principal of the school at Fults, spent Saturday and Sunday at home with his family. He came home to deny a report that he was dead, which some way or other was circulated here. He says he is far from being a “dead one” and judging from appearance he is correct. And he is no dead one, either, when it comes to spelling. Try him on this study, will you? Conductor Perry on the interurban found a pocketbook containing $110 on the car last Thursday. It was not long until he received an inquiry by telephone from Dupo in regard to same, and on the return trip to that city the money was restored to its owner who is visiting relatives in that city. Mr. Perry was presented with a whole dollar for his honesty by the grateful owner of the roll. The crew on the interurban are as honest, upright and good-hearted a bunch of men as you meet with anywhere. However if people keep on paying heavy rewards like that it might make them peevish and reckless. Emil Welsch of Burksville has taken up a homestead claim at Jordan, Dawson County, Montana, and left for that point last week. His many friends in this county wish him success in his new home. The Times will keep him informed of the happenings in Monroe County. At the school election last Saturday held for the purpose of electing a president and two members of the board, J.S. Schorr was re-elected as president and George A. Crocker and Jacob Koenigsmark were re-elected as trustees. Only 110 votes were cast, four of which were not counted as they were defective. J.B. Sendelbeck lost one of his favorite game roosters last Friday. Jack had two of them penned in separate pens. One, a brown-red, flew through the wire fence of his coop and went after the other bird. When Jack came out into yard he found his brown red dead, and the other rooster pretty well done up.
