The Waterloo Times Friday, April 9, 1915 Marrying Justices Have Busy Week – Perform Four Ceremonies H. D. Harris of Kenoma, Mo., and Effie May Hunter of Chamois, Mo., came all the way to Waterloo to be married and keep the wedding a secret form their Missouri friends. The couple came in Saturday afternoon and were joined for life by Squire Louis S. Demint. Judge Rudolph P. Briegel of Columbia was one of the witnesses to the ceremony. Harry Deacon and Mattie Evans both from Venice, Ills., came down on the 3 P.M. car Saturday and were married by Judge Hugo Bremser, while the car waited, and returned on the same car as happy as a pair of turtle doves. The “Judge” has a reputation for speedy marriages. Clarence Anderson and Alvina Vondrie both from East St. Louis, took advantage of Easter Monday holiday and came out to Waterloo on the 3 P.M. car and were married by Louis S. Demint. The groom has friends in this city who wish him and his bride much joy and good luck to their matrimonial venture. At 10:15 o’clock Tuesday morning John F. Goodmann and Helen G. Miller both from St. Louis stepped from an interurban car here. At 10:16 the pair entered County Clerk Henry Eisenbart’s office and asked for a marriage license, same granted. At 10:18 they were married by Judge Hugo Bremser. At 10:20 the couple left the Court House arm in arm in plenty of time to take the same car back. Judge Bremser’s record for quick marriages has attracted numerous couples to Waterloo in the past few years. The “Judge” says they can’t come too fast for him.
