The Waterloo Times Friday, May 7, 1915 LOCAL NEWS NOTES A little girl arrived at the home of Henry Hellmer Tuesday afternoon. A.C. Schoeneberg has moved his cobbler shop into the Pinkel building formerly occupied by L.P. DeRousse, the jeweler. August Feldmeier’s residence on West Mill Street has been repainted and now looms up as handsome, fresh and clean as any home in town. A number of schoolmates and friends of Gertrude Wolf assisted her in celebrating her birthday Wednesday afternoon and had a royal good time. The first eight-cylinder automobile to arrive in Monroe County was delivered to Joseph W. Rickert, last Saturday. It is a 1915 model Cadillac, seven-passenger touring car. With this eight-cylinder engine the shifting of gears is practically eliminated. The flexibility of the motor is truly wonderful; from less than 3 miles an hour on high gear to a speed of sixty-five miles an hour, demonstrates its wide range of speed not to be found in any other type of motor. Mr. Rickert has had wonderful success with Cadillac. Some ten years ago, the first automobile driven on our streets was a one- cylinder Cadillac, which at that time was quite a curiosity. Later he traded this car for a four-cylinder Cadillac, and after four years of service, has traded it for an eight-cylinder, which latter car, seems to be the “last word” in automobile perfection.
