The Waterloo Times December 3, 1915 UMPIRE DIEHL DIED SUDDENLY Charles Diehl of Millstadt passed away Tuesday of last week at the age of 52 years, 8 months and 3 days. He was stricken with apoplexy while mining coal at the Diamond Joe mine near that city and died a few hours later. Charlie Diehl was an ardent follower of baseball, and in this connection was known all over the circuit of the M. & O. league, in which he served as umpire. He was firm in his decisions and when he thought he was right he stood up for his convictions, came what would. He had many friends on the circuit who were profoundly sorry to learn of his untimely death. The umpire of the supreme universe called him out, and his game of life ended peacefully and with out a protest from him. May his sleep be peaceful and calm.
