The Waterloo Times Friday, April 16, 1915 Columbia B. Gilmore, one of our rural carriers, has purchased a new Ford touring car. Joe Rauch has purchased a horse and will again deliver ice to his customers this year. A good crowd was present Sunday evening at the picture show. The people like the movies. Joseph R. Frierdich is now the proud owner of a new seven passenger Studebaker touring car. The St. Louis Quartet is advertised to give an entertainment in Turner Hall next Thursday evening. There will be English service at the Lutheran church next Sunday evening. Everybody invited. The rain last Friday did a world of good to the crops and farmers in these parts are smiling contentedly. E.F. Schoening has purchased the $20,000 bonds of the Dupo school district recently issued by that school district. Saturday was a good day for our merchants. Pay day at Dupo and both quarries put considerable money in circulation. Fred Kremmel has moved his family and household effects to Edwardsville where he has secured employment in the harness shop. Double headers were run on the interurban Sunday evening and there was no congestion of traffic as on the Sunday evening previous. Our election of village officers will take place next Tuesday. Only one ticket is in the field. Fred Rapp for president of the board, and E.H. Gundlach, Otto Vogt and Henry Kraus for members. The school trustee election held here last Saturday passed over very quietly, only 48 votes being polled. Henry Giffhorn was re-elected and Charles Schuler was chosen to fill the un-expired term caused by the death of Philip Gummersheimer. The annual school election will take place Saturday afternoon, April 17. A president and two members of the board are to be chosen. W.E. Weinel is a candidate for president and Joseph M. Arnin and E.H. Gundlach for trustees. They have made good officers and should be re-elected. Philip, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gummersheimer, died at the home of his parents near this city Tuesday. The interment will take place in St. Paul’s cemetery Thursday afternoon. The bereaved parents have the sincere sympathy of all in the loss of their little son. The regular quarterly meeting of the members of the St. Paul’s Evangelical church took place after morning services last Sunday. Two new members joined the church, Fred Weisenborn and Fred O. Meyer, both of Dupo. Henry Giffhorn was chosen as delegate to attend the district meeting at Addieville and Henry Osick as alternate. A jolly crowd assembled at the home of Gus. Schroeder, jr., Monday evening to tender him a surprise upon his 21st birthday anniversary. The young folks were invited in and spent an enjoyable evening, remaining until midnight. An excellent supper was served as well as all sorts of refreshments and all present wish Gus many more happy returns of his birthday.
