The Waterloo Times Friday, April 23, 1915 Base Ball Babble The Season is Inaugurated in Waterloo – W. H. S. Loses The Waterloo High School base ball team and the Belleville High School team engaged in a 10 act farce comedy Saturday on the Mentel grounds. One team tried to outdo the other in the misplays and hard swatting, and the game was not decided until the tenth inning. Both pitchers were swatted at all corners of the lot, and after the dust had subsided in the final frame the count stood 14 to 11 in Belleville’s favor. Our boys did well, considering it was their first game of the season. The West Ends and the Bloody Nine, two rival teams of this city, engaged in the first game of the series Sunday. Steve Pautler, the manager of the Bloody Nine, was absent and the entire team did not have their usual pep. Three pitchers could not stampede the swatfest, which the West Ends let loose. Twenty-five this in all were garnered by the, some being of the extra-base variety. At the end of the bombardment the score stood 23 to 7 in West Ends favor. Marcellus Hartmann pitched for the West Ends and struck out 15 batsmen. Clemens Reinhold was the hitting star of the game, getting a triple, 2 doubles and 2 singles in 7 times at bat. The second game of the series will be staged in the near future.
