Oct 22, 1915 Waterloo Times $3,500 Alienation Verdict For Diesel Michael Diesel of Millstadt got a verdict for $3,500 damages against his cousin, Dr. D. J. Diesel, in his suit for damages for the alleged alienation of the affections of his wife, Mrs. Susanah Diesel. A sealed verdict returned by the jury in Judge Crow’s division of the Circuit Court at Belleville at 9 p.m. Thursday was read Friday morning. None of the principals in the suit were in court. Michael Diesel had sued for $10,000. The testimony in the suit was declared to be of the most sensational character ever heard in Belleville. Virtually every resident of Millstadt attended the trial. Dr. Diese’s attorneys at once filed a motion for a new trial, and the chances are that there will be a long legal battle before the case is finally disposed of. Indications are that it will take several years before the case is settled.
