Geo. Ruhl, the 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Ruhl residing east, died on Tuesday of last week. Death was cased by bleeding of the nose. He was buried in the Catholic Cemetery Thursday.

The old Sand Bank School house was sold last Saturday at public sale and was bought by Mr. W. Phelps for $10. With its removal will pass one of the old landmarks of Monroe County.

Miss Carrie Frierdichs and Mr. Edward Karger were married at Waterloo last Sunday, May 8, at the Evangelical parsonage, Rev. J. Nollan officiating. The young couple were attended by Miss Emma Karger and Mr. John Kraetsch. After the ceremony the bridal party returned to Columbia, where the young couple will make their home on South Main Street, in the Reichenbach house. We wish them happiness and prosperity in their wedded life.

The following class will take their first communion at the Catholic Church on Ascension Thursday. Albert Mutz, John Miller, John Scherer, Frank Ritter Alois Riebeling, Fred Lepp, John Deken, Gustav Friedich, Willie Frierdich, Herman Mees and Wm. Faust. Girls: Aggie Frierdich, Mary Juengling, Carrie Schiemer, Stella Mosbacher, Lizzie Lepenski, Bertha Fischer, Bertha Mundinger, Maggie Dooley. Maggie Mosbacher, Lizzie Brandt, Lizzie Reichert, Maggie Thoma, and Annie Mueller.

Miss Ida Kaempfe and Mr. William Eschmann were married last Sunday May 8. Mr. Theodore Eschmann, brother of the groom, and Miss Louise Schroeder attended the young couple. The ceremony was performed at the Evangelical parsonage by Rev Dornenburg of St. Paul's Church. The young people have gone to housekeeping in the Doettling house on North Main St. May their wedded life be filled with peace and happiness.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klein celebrated their crystal wedding last Sunday with a nice social gathering at their beautiful home on South Second Street. Those present were; Mr. and Mrs. Aug F, Weinel and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Klein and son Theodore, Mr. and Mrs. Ernst A. Weiner, Misses Mary Weinel, Emelia and Emma Grosse, Lulu Ridlingmeier, Carrie and Ida Klein, Emil Otto of St. Louis and Wm. Reger. The host and hostess received a number of beautiful crystal presents, and the event will be remembered as a pleasant one indeed.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lepp, well known and prominent farmers celebrated their china wedding last Saturday night, Nov 5. Their friends and neighbors were invited and all assed a happy evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lepp always provide their guests a good time as they know how to entertain.

Chas. Melching and daughter Miss Lizzie, Mr. and Mrs. George Faust, Miss Mary Faust all of Renault, Peter Faust and daughters Misses Katie and Anna Faust of Caseyville, Mrs. Peter Seifert of Ashley, Ill., and Wm. Hoffmann Jr., of Burksville all attended the burial of Wm. Kalowsky Tuesday.

Another man was killed at Bixby Sunday night, November 6, Patrick McNeil a conductor. Just how it happened no one seems to know. He signaled for his train to back up when suddenly he disappeared. His remains were horribly mangled. He lived at Bixby. That town is fast making a reputation as a place of fatalities.

A family reunion took place last Sunday at the home of Marshal John B. Schmidt. His children and grandchildren were present and the Schmidt home presented an animated scene indeed. The day was the 58th birthday of both Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. John F. Schmidt and family of Murphysboro, Ill., also Ado F. Lang and family and Charles Schmidt and family of East St. Louis, Thomas Schmidt, Frank Riebeling and family and Gus. Juengling and family of here.
