Obituary, The Waterloo Republican, Dec. 10, 1913: TOLIN. Lumin Tolin died suddenly Sunday evening Dec. 7, 1913, dusk at his residence in New Design. The end came suddenly, and without warning, tho not entirely a surprise, since he had not been well for several months. He made his home with his son A. C. Tolin on the old Nin Tolin place near the old Baptist meeting house of historic note. He had not left the place for some time, tho he was up and about all the time, and interested himself about the place as fancy directed. But his close friends saw that he was steadily sinking, and that the end was near. The deceased was a member of the early pioneers, and had lived in this vicinity all his life. His wife, Hazeltine Tolin, died long since, and was interred in the old cemetery at the church. For a number of years past he lived with his only son, C. A. Tolin, and where he died. Mr. Tolin was for many years a familiar character. He was of a kindly and genial disposition, with hosts of friends. In former years it was the custom of many to come to Waterloo during court week, and remain during the entire term. The custom prevailed until lack of interest in court matters ceased, and one by one the older visitors dropped off. Mr. Tolin was the last of this list, his health last September being such that he was not able to make his usual visit. The remains were laid to rest yesterday afternoon at the New Design cemetery. Mr. Tolin was born Jan,. 9, 1835 son of Isaac Tolin, and lived in the vicinity all his life. He is survived by his son A. C., nine grand-children, and five great-grand-children.
