Mitchell, John H. John H. Mitchell, died May 26, 2006. He was married to Elsie S. Schwartz. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, daughter Ruth (James) Cooper, granddaughter Angela (Tim) Ellison, great-grandsons John Valentine, Alex Valentine and Lauren Ellison. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Myrtle Jehling. Mr. Mitchell was a founder and president of the Waterloo Park Board. He served two terms as an alderman and two terms as mayor of the City of Waterloo. He was a charter member and first commander of the Waterloo V.F.W. Post 6504, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2119 in Webster Groves and a fourth degree member of St. Louis Assembly 565. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific in the Army Air Corps, and of the Korean War, where he served in the Air Force. Visitation was at Hoffmeister South County Chapel. A funeral mass was at St. Mark Catholic Church in St. Louis. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the St. Louis Veterans Administration Medical Center Activities Fund at Jefferson Barracks.
