Lena M. Schmieg

Lena M. Schmieg, nee Guttmann, 93, of Waterloo, Ill., born January 1, 1908, in Fults, Ill., 
died Saturday, October 20, 2001, at Monroe County Nursing Home, Waterloo.

Mrs. Schmieg was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nickolaus and Christina, nee Kunkel, Guttmann, 
her husband, Charles J. Schmieg; son Norman Schmieg; daughter-in-law, LaVerne Schmieg; 
sister, Marie Guttmann; and brothers, Henry, John, Walter and Oscar Guttmann.

Surviving are her children Clinton Schmieg of Waterloo, Thelma (Raymond) Shields of Waterloo, 
Fern (Fred) Kinzinger of Waterloo, and Charlene Waligorski of Maryland Heights, MO; 10 
grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Lura) Guttmann of Waterloo; sister-in-law, 
Florence Koch of Fults; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Monroe County Nursing Home Activity Fund or to the charity of the 
donor’s choice.

Friends called Monday, October 22, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.

The funeral Mass was Tuesday, October 23, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with 
Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
