Wetzel, Marie B.
Marie B. Wetzel nee Herbst, 86, of Waterloo, died October 19, 2004, in Waterloo. Mrs. Wetzel 
was married to the late Walter J. Wetzel Sr. She was born June 22, 1918, in Valmeyer, the daughter 
of the late Valentine and Augusta Herbst nee Garleb. She is survived by her children Arline (David) 
Cadwell of Chattanooga, Tenn., Walter J. (Patricia) Wetzel Jr. of Waterloo, David (Rita) Wetzel 
of Waterloo, and Kenneth E. Wetzel of Waterloo; grandchildren Carl Cadwell and Christin Cadwell 
of Chattanooga, Julie (Brian) Branson of Valmeyer, Ronald (Maria) Wetzel of Chicago, Cari Wetzel 
of Virginia Beach, Va., and Leah Wetzel of Waterloo; brother John (Mava) Herbst of Mahomet; 
sister-in-law Viola Wetzel of Columbia; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents 
and husband. Mrs. Wetzel was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. She was a 
lifetime member of the Illinois Association for Home and Community Education, a past member of the 
Waterloo PTA, and avid spelling bee competitor, and a 1938 winner of a trip to 4-H Club Congress 
in Chicago. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Concord Presbyterian 
Church, Pastor Will Hesterberg officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. 
Memorials may be made to Concord Presbyterian Church, Covenant College of Lookout Mountain in 
Tennessee, or the Waterloo FFA Alumni Scholarship Fund.
