Jung, Charles Obituary, Waterloo Republican Charles S. Jung, beloved husband of Wilhelmina Jung (nee Rosemann) died rather suddenly at his home, 5219 South Grand Avenue, St. Louis, Sunday, November 17. He was born in Waterloo on June 26, 1888, son of the late Henry and Carolina Jung (nee Braun), and was aged 75 years, 4 months and 21 days. Mr. Jung was a lifelong resident of Waterloo until just a few months ago, when he and his wife, along with their two daughters, moved to St. Louis, where both of the daughters are employed. As a young man, Charles Jung joined with his brother, Al G. Jung in the firm of Jung Bros., and they operated a grocery store at the corner of Mill and Church Streets (now the Chic Shoppe). In 1937 he purchased his brother’s interest and two years later sold the store to Peter W. Schmitt, who continued the business until his death. It is now operated by Donald Schmitt as Schmitt’s Tom Boy Store. Mr. Jung served one term as the assessor and treasurer of Monroe County and also represented the second ward as an alderman on the city council. “Charlie”, as he was affectionately called by all his friends, was known for his wit and humor, and he always had a timely story to tell while waiting on the customers. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Miss Rose Mary Jung and Miss Doris Jung of St. Louis; two sons, Cletus Jung of Waterloo and Robert Jung of St. Louis, five grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Caroline Jung of Springfield, MO. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society. Transcribed by Jean Jung
