SCHMITT Ambrose Schmitt, one of our well known citizens, died suddenly Monday afternoon, while engaged in duties about the house. He had been about the premises and in the vicinity all morning, had dinner in his usual good spirits, and in the afternoon was assisting in unloading some potatoes which he had purchased for the winter use. He had carried two or three sacks down the cellar steps, and Wm. Schnieder, who had delivered them in his wagon, was waiting for him to come up. After waiting a few moments his suspicions became aroused and he was found in a dying condition in the cellar, from a paralytic stroke. Death ensued in a few moments. His age was 64 years. The deceased was well known here, where he was born and reared. For many years he was engineer in the Koenigsmark Mill, but retired several years ago. The deceased is survived by his wife, sons Ambrose Jr. of St. Louis, Peter of this city and Julian of California and daughters Beatrice and Elizabeth.
