Silas J. Fults - Obit Taken from Waterloo, Ill. newspaper. Silas J. Fults. 1917: Another of our old and respected citizens was summoned to the great beyond this week. Silas J. Fults, who has been a resident of this county the greater part of his life, died Monday afternoon after a lingering illness, aged 81 years, 3 months and 20 days. Deceased was born in Renauld, Ill. July 29, 1836. His father and mother were married in Jefferson County, MO in 1815 and moved from there to Moredocks block house in 1816 and from there to Kidds block house in 1813. Of this union there resulted in ten children: six boys and three girls. Silas J. Fults was the youngest of the boys and he was married to Miss Priscilla Dorance on August 16, 1855. Of this marriage four children were born, three boys and one girl. Two of these survive. Lafayette Fults, of this city, and Mrs. Lottie Eccles of Round Prarie, Minn. His first wife died in 1867. On Sep 22 1869, he was again married, Miss Margaretha Nau of near Smiths Landing becoming his bride. To this union four children were born, three boys and one girl, three of whom besides his wife survive. Mrs. Nellie Thompson of St. Louis, Sidney Fults of Willard Ill., and Edward Fults of Crystal City, Mo. Mr. Fults was engaged in farming for many years. During the Civil War he was constable in Renauld precinct and served as deputy sheriff and jailer under Sheriff J. H. Wilson of this county from 1871 to 1882. His remains were laid to rest in the Waterloo Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon, the funeral taking place from the home of his son Lafayette, on North Main Street. The funeral was conducted by Rev. G.F.
