The Columbia Star, Columbia, Illinois, Thursday, November 9, 1933, page 1 FORMER COLUMBIAN DIES AT PUEBLO, COLO. Mrs. Eleanor Miles Guzan died at Pueblo, Colo. And her remains were brought to Miles Cemetery near Fountain in Monroe County where she was buried on Tuesday, November 7, 1933. Mrs. Guzan was born at the old Miles Homestead in Miles Prairie, a daughter of the late Stephen W. Miles and wife, direct descendants of a well known pioneer family who came here from the east when slavery was still considered a just and honorable institution, and who brought their colored servants. Many years ago the elder Miles erected upon the brow of a high hill on his farm a marble vault as a burial place for “his descendants in line.” which is still to this day an object of interest and admiration to visitors there. In this marble vault the remains of the deceased have a right to rest. In this vicinity Eleanor Birdie Miles Guzan was reared and grew into womanhood. Her education was obtained in St. Louis where the finishing schools of the West had their early beginning. Her first Husband, Mr. Giblier, preceded her in death. A son, Edward Giblier, her only child, is a resident of Pueblo, Colo. Her second husband, Mr. Guzan also survives her. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Mary Miles Warnock, wife of the late James Worthington Warnock, a well known citizen of Columbia. The deceased was a highly educated and brilliant woman, and her many friends in Columbia will long remember her as such. - Waterloo Republican. NOTE: although the last name of the deceased appears as GUZAN in this obituary, other records consistently show the last name to be DUGAN. Eleanor “Birdie” MILES, also found as Lenore or Leonore Millson Miles, married first George Giblier, and second William Dugan.
