Obituary for Jacob Van Buren


Jacob J. VanBuren, one of our best and most widely known farmers, died at 
his home near Waterloo on May 11, 1932 aged 77 years, 10 months and 4 days.

The deceased had resided on the farm formerly owned by Guy Feldmeier and 
was once part of the Wiswell farms. Mr. VanBuren was an exceptionally good
farmer and his farm was one of the best in the county. James Wiswell erected 
the house and landscaped the grounds, and in its day it was one of the show 
farms of the vicinity. The grounds and buildings were well cared for by Feldmeier 
and VanBuren and today the farm attracts the attention of all who pass that way.

The deceased was born near Waterloo on July 7, 1854, and was actively engaged
in farming all his life.

He is survived by wife, nee Ruff, and twelve children. Two died in infancy. The 
survivors are Mrs. Ferdinand Boedecker near Waterloo. Mrs. August Bernau of 
Iowa. Henry at home. Mrs. Albert Knueper of Iowa. John of Waterloo. Jacob of Belleville.
 Louis in Missouri. William in Kansas. Amanda at home. Armin, Arthur and Albert 
of Iowa.

He also leaves one brother Herman of Red Bud, half brother, Paul Mohme of New 
Douglas, one step-brother and two step sisters.

Services were conducted at the Holy Cross Lutheran church at Wartburg by Rev. Young 
and the funeral was one of the largest ever held in the village.

The deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him and the deep sympathy of all 
is extended to the bereaved ones.
