Rosemann, Theresa (Raming) Obituary, Waterloo Republican - March 9, 1910 Mrs. Theresa Rosemann, oldest resident of Monroe County, died at the home of her son, Ben Rosemann of this city, at the age of 93 years and one month. (3/2/1910) She was born in Koenigsreich, Hanover, Germany, February 2, 1817. At the age of 18 she came over via Baltimore, with her sister to America. Her sister died immediately after arriving, which left her alone to find employment, which she succeeded to find in Shoal Creek, Clinton County, near Belleville, Illinois. Two years later she married to Joseph Rosemann in Belleville, by Reverend Langenberg in 1837. They settled on a farm three miles east of Waterloo, where she resided 70 years. To this union eight children were born, four died in infancy and three later died. Ben of this city is the only surviving one, with whom she made her home for the last three years. Grandma Rosemann although weakened by age, still had a good memory and could relate interesting tales. She could speak of the Indians when she came to America. Indians were very numerous at that time and often came to ask for money. When paper money was given to them, for at that time five and ten cent pieces paper money were used, they tore it to pieces and threw it at their feet, thinking it was of no value, but when silver money was given to them, they were very thankful and went their way. She was of a kind and lovable disposition and a good Roman Catholic, being always contented which helped her to this ripe age. Besides her son she leaves six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and quite a number of nieces and nephews. She was buried Saturday morning at S.S. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery after a Requiem High Mass conducted by Reverend C. Krewett. Transcribed by Jean Jung
